Marcotte, Avoyellean of the Year in the 1790s, was one of the first two carpenters at the Avoyelles Post noted by historian Corinne Saucier. Marcotte, the patriarch of the Marcotte family of Avoyelles, physically helped to build the beginnings of Avoyelles, providing home, barns, stores for the early settlers.
