Earl Barbry, Avoyellean of 1993
Tunica-Biloxi Chairman Earl Barbry, Sr. was born and raised on the tribe's reservation in Marksville. One of his major contributions was gaining recognition of his tribe by the federal government and he also was a major driving force in the creation of what is now known as the Paragon Casino in 1993. He was been named Avoyellean of the Year for 1993. The plaque was presented by Raymond Laborde, Avoyellean of 1978.
Later he was named the Marksville Chamber of Commerce Minority Business Man of the Year in 1996 and he also received the prestigious Louisiana Legend award by Louisiana Public Broadcasting.
